The way ahead

Post by Peter54 » Thu Feb 11, 2016 3:15 pm

I have now had to retire from work due to illness. I miss my colleagues and friends greatly and find the days long and empty.

I ask God to help me recover as much of my health as is possible to add some quality to life.

For renewed health, and for a sense of purpose and companionship. :votive2: :votive2: :votive2:

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:29-31
Kindness is underrated.

Been there. Peter !
I found without the pressure to get better,and the sense of obligation to colleagues and employers removed, the search for useful treatment became more effective.
You may well find soon, with that particular stress gone, that the permission to take your time is of more help than you anticipate. You are in control of your days now, apart from things like doctors' appointments and nurses' visits.
It takes time to stop missing work and your friends there, don't rush it. The positive aspects of this sort of retirement emerge slowly.If you're anything like me, as your health gradually picks up now you can focus on it and you adjust to doing only what's within your strength, you'll learn what you can and can't do, with nobody on your back.

:votive2: :votive1: God will eventually present you with the opportunity to be useful again, don't worry.

Sorry to hear that, Peter - it's undoubtedly a form of bereavement when you are forced to leave a job :hug:

We're always here to pray for you, and to talk to you, if you need it.

Like You and Joyce I also had to retire on the grounds of ill health. Yes, there is a time of bereavement in the loss of the job/career.
True friends will always be your friends :hug: . I still have very good and supportive friends who I used to work with.
Hang on in there.
You are in my prayers. :votive1: :votive1:

Peter, I found the first year the hardest and it certainly felt like a bereavement to me with losing my independence due to poor mobility and having to rely on others so much...but as time went on and with a lot of support from friends (especially here at i-church ) I have managed to adopt a new daily routine ( far less rigid than the old) that allows me to do what I can when I can and I rarely have to check the clock ....my normal day now is dictated by how stiff I am and how enticing the weather outside my window is ..a daily walk does me the power of good even if it does take an hour to do what I used to cover in ten minutes. The internet can be a wonderful way to meet new friends and take part in groups that I could not otherwise attend. The Lent group here is one such example and it is open to everyone. I have chatroom appointments four times a week and to me they are as important and as 'real' as any I attend physically.
My prayers are with you :hug:

:votive1:

For opportunities to arise to give some structure to your days

I know it's a much more cheerful situation but I am quite constrained in my job options by childcare availability and costs, and I am still adjusting really to work not being my main focus for the foreseeable future even though my toddler is nearly two.
