HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021
WIshing everyone hope and healing in the new year.
Some bible verses to think about as we pray our way into the new year:
Isaiah 43:18-19 - Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Psalm 34:8 - Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021
To keep our spirits up perhaps we should follow the old tradition of keeping decorations up to Candlemas - 2nd Feb. Why not?

February 2nd is also accession day. It is said Her Majesty takes down the decorations at Sandringham in mourning for her father, H M George VI. I'd be interested to know what the tradition was when The King was alive and in earlier reigns.

We didn't have time to take our tree down today, so I guess we're following the old tradition!rogerjames wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:58 amTo keep our spirits up perhaps we should follow the old tradition of keeping decorations up to Candlemas - 2nd Feb. Why not?

Glad you liked that, Pam. We decided to go with the idea. We use our "tame" lemon tree as a Christmas tree each year. She [Lizzie] spends the summer in the garden [in a bubble] and comes in to the living room every autumn. We put traditional decorations on her and she joins us until things warm up again. We can just about manage to move her in her pot!Pam wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:33 amWe didn't have time to take our tree down today, so I guess we're following the old tradition!rogerjames wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:58 amTo keep our spirits up perhaps we should follow the old tradition of keeping decorations up to Candlemas - 2nd Feb. I dusted and rearranged some of our Christmas cards and otherwise left things suitably festive. We will take them all down for Candlemas having had an extra months enjoyment.
I must say I am enjoying this departure from the norm and recommend it!
Roger

Love the Candlmas idea, so we're going with keeping our tree lighted.
One concession: the new front door wreath will not have Christmas balls.
One of my non-religious friends wished us MC. Guess I could reply, AD or BC or BCE?
Nooo, I accepted MC. In England, it's HC. But now we're back to PC.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021
Our street is usually very Christmassy from 1 December onwards - we don't put up decorations till nearer to Christmas. One house opposite us still has its full array of outside lights etc. If it was left to me, I'd keep the lights up all year - I love Christmas lights!
A Baptist church in Coventry has decided to keep its Christmas star up beyond 12th Night this year, despite having decided to cancel services and other face-to-face activities - apparently due to popular request in the neighbourhood!

I love this idea Pam. I wonder why we don’t have ‘winter lights‘ rather than just Christmas lights ? I am sure they would help us through the long cold nights after Christmas.
