interpretation

I really haven't got a clue whether there's any deeper meaning to this, so I'll be interested to hear what others have to say. Pigs were (and still are) viewed as unclean in Judaism, so that would have been an extra resonance for Jesus' listeners. I have worked with pigs and can confirm that anythin...

God in a traffic jam?

Yes, I'd heard they are doing really well and are spreading.

Somebody famous said something along the lines of 'it might be just coincidence, but it's funny how when I pray coincidences happen'.
I've been trying to think who it was, but can't, someone here can probably tell us. :)

Word for today

'Avatar'

You probably all know this already, but I came across this in a book set in India today, and found out that it means 'incarnation, manifestation or appearance', particularly in reference to gods, specifically the Hindu god Vishnu.

What do people Pray For?

I'm not sure I understand the difference between petition and intercession?
Does it mean the difference between asking for things for yourself (petition) and for other people (intercession)?
Thanks,
:)

God in a traffic jam?

On Saturday I got stuck in some roadworks for ages and would have got very fed up, except that I was cheered up by a red kite hovering above me. There were either several of them or I saw one several times, had to keep an eye on the road too! :) Could have just been coincidence, but it was very good...

Signs of Spring

I came back to the house today to find that the daffodils in the pot by the front door are blooming. :) And it's definitely warmer today than it has been.
Might see if I can work out a way to send a picture: when I tried before with another photo it told me the file was too big.

As a layperson, I value that ordained clergy have minimum standards of training and theological knowledge. I value lay people's ministry and example of faith too, but they are important to me in a different way. I don't know a lot about church history or the saints. However discussion about what the...

An Anglican Athiest?

I think it would be quite possible to like the poetry, music and traditions of the Church of England, without any faith in God at all. So the concept of an 'atheist Anglican' doesn't seem too incongruous to me. Perhaps helped by growing up with the idea of secular Jews and religious Jews.

My experience of sermons has been very variable. I think ministers all have their strengths and weaknesses, and some of them are just not all that great at public speaking (but are often very good at other things). I think it is a lot to expect a vicar to preach several times a week to the same cong...

Our very own Tower of Babel...

I changed it into German which I read fairly fluently: it was far from perfect, for example I think it translated 'go to the bottom of the page' into 'get to the bottom of it' [as in getting to the bottom of a problem or issue]. However I'm sure you'd get the gist of what the person is saying. A min...

I thought it was ok, I'm not sure it would have a chance of being number 1 without a specific campaign behind it because I think it's a bit too rocky and not pop enough, but I might be wrong.

I think it would depend on whether the song is any good or not! :) I've never heard it so can't comment. It might remind people that a) for many people faith is important in their lives and b) that Easter is not just about chocolate. I think the song would need to be very good, otherwise it will jus...

Eucharist service

Hi Kevin, I'm glad to hear you've been to a service and want to go again. I can't speak for your church of course but every church I've been to has been happy to give blessings for those not taking communion, regardless of the type of service. In most churches, (unless there are a lot of visitors/ne...
