The Pope Parks Tanks on Rowan's Lawn

I don't know the details but didn't some Anglican priests (including married ones I believe) move to the RC church when the ordination of women priests was announced?
Is this just an official recognition of the same thing?

Pray for my family

For strength and courage in the complexities of family life.
For confidence that you're not expected to be perfect, just to do your best.

REMARRIAGE IN CHURCH AFTER ADULTURY + MARRIAGE BREAKDOWN.

There's not a lot I can add to what Pam has said, I agree that you have clearly thought a lot about your journey and how God fits into it all, so I'm sure that will help you talk to the vicar. Personally I find I can express my feelings more easily on paper than in person so if that's the same for y...

Help me create a multi-religious homily

A topic that occurs to me for a memorial service is that all the major religions feel that death is not just an end, that there is more to life than our earthly lives, and that we should follow spiritual values rather than earthly ones. Just a thought. Radio 4's 'thought for the day' programme has s...

I think C.S.Lewis says some useful things, especially about the potential pitfalls of churches, in 'The Screwtape Letters'. This was written some time ago but most of his points are just as relevant today.

Re: DNA experimantation

As someone with scientific training I would like to point out that talking about 'science' as a whole is a huge generalization, similar to talking about 'religion' as a whole. There is a vast range of scientific work, and only a small proportion is in controversial areas. Definitely experiments shou...

Yes, it annoys me too.
My addition would be that prolonged contact with the chemical's solid form can cause injury or even death.

Re: Faith Journeys

I found the book 'the shack' by Wm Paul Young contained, among other things, a helpful discussion of God in relation to suffering. The free will explanation mentioned by enyaj seems the best to me for suffering caused by humans, but is more difficult for natural disasters such as earthquakes. Althou...

Re: Things I want to know in Christianity.

Yes, that's what I was getting at: you can't prove or disprove God's influence in events, and it's almost always possible to come up with an alternative explanation that doesn't involve God if you try hard enough, so it's a personal decision as to which explanation to believe.

Re: Things I want to know in Christianity.

I agree that the historical and geographical setting around Israel in old testament times were important in shaping the story of Judaism. For example, the difficulty finding water in the desert wouldn't have happened if they had been in Scotland instead. However perhaps they would have had a problem...

Re: liberation theology... and other emerging theologies

I don't know loads about liberation theology and a lot of your post went right over my head but I do think that the gospels show Jesus prioritising issues of inequality and poverty and this is often sidelined by some branches of christianity. I thought liberation theology arose in South America and ...

Re: Help I'm dying spiritually.

Hi Selita, I'm sorry to hear you're having a tough time. I find that the beauty of God's creation can be very uplifting when I am struggling to feel connected with Him. I find it doesn't need to be anything extraordinary: just a pot of flowers in the house or garden, or listening to the birds in the...

Re: Divorce, Marriage and adultery

Different Christians will have widely differing views on this and many will disagree but this is my personal view on this topic: 1) God is merciful, and knows that we all fall short of His ideals, as expressed in Jesus' life and teachings. Jesus also talks about giving up all our possessions but mos...
