Jesus as God - no, Jesus as perfect -no, Jesus 'begotten not created' - no. Unique Jesus - no. (except in the sense that all are unique). That's the only way things make sense to me.
Thanks for all the comments on this thread. It's good to see where people are coming from/what people believe.

I meant Ernest - sorry.
Also, I regard the stories of Jesus cooking breakfast and catching fish as lovely stories, people remembering Jesus.

Joe - "Anyone who has seen me has seen the father". Apart from the reference to God as father, I don't disagree with that.

Joe - As you will know, the Anglican Communion also uses the Nicene creed, which does not refer specifically to bodily resurrection. "On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures......We look for the resurrection of the dead." It does read "in accordance with the scriptures", but...

I've hit the reply button, but I don't really have a reply to that. My thoughts at this point are that if someone illustrates something with a picture, someone else will take the picture literally. I'm not much interested in miracles that defy the laws of nature. That is not to say I don't believe i...

Thanks for posting this, AndrewG. Jews and Muslims, in particular, are troubled by the Trinity because it appears that in this notion of "the one in three," Christians have abandoned monotheism and have, in fact, exchanged the One God for many. Some Christians share these concerns about the Trinity,...

In my opinion it's more important to lean the same way politically, than to have the same faith.

Just to say thanks to all who took an interest in this thread and for the links and references. I particularly like AndrewG's link on the Arian controversy. Hi Joyce I'm not really understanding your meaning. :hmm: Hi Beth so you're linking son of man with the incarnation through to the transfiguration. I like the way you describe finding deeper and deeper meaning as you follow Jesus through the stages of his life. According to Luke at Jesus' baptism a ...

Hi Ernest and AndrewG Thank you so much for bothering so much with your answers. I'm interested more in Jesus' self assessment of his position, that then has also to be read as an interpretation of the writer (not to mention the different meanings arising from different translations). The Trinity th...

Would anyone care to tell me where if anywhere in the Bible Jesus is reported to refer to himself as God/see himself as God?
If the answer is Get yee hence to Google, well ok.
The reason for my question is that I am trying to work out what kind of Trinity I believe in.

The Psalms
At work we have to change password on all applications every so often, and when we're not active on an application there is an automatic log off and we have to log on again to resume. I use a line or half a line of a psalm for my password, so every time I log in I'm typing the same bit of the psalm ...

The reading plan I linked to could be used in conjunction with http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/ There's a note on the top of the plan: "This Bible reading plan prepared by A. This thread has triggered a desire, which I've had before, to read the Bible chronologically, that is in the order events were thought to have happened, rather than reading straight through the books of the Bible as they are generally arranged, or selecting passages thematically as in Common Worship...
